For those of you who haven't had the privilage of meeting our family pet...Haylee's has had a pet fish, Pedro, for about a year or so now. Well, we have actually had three Pedros to be exact. We lost two and simply told Haylee that Pedro needed a hair cut...so Daddy took him to the salon to get it and came back with a new doo and different color "hair". She bought it.
However, he died again (or not again....this one died) yesterday and we decided to tell her he died. She's getting older and she's starting to understand dealth a LITTLE. Like the earth worm her and Daddy played with in the yard died while they were playing with it and she kinda understood. And she remembers Nana & Pappy's dog going to heaven. So we thought we'd tell her. Here's how the conversation went:
Daddy: Haylee, Mommy & I need to tell you something.
Haylee: What?
Daddy: (long pause) Pedro died.
Haylee: So I don't have a fish anymore?
Mommy: No, but we'll go to the pet store and pick out a new one next weekend and you can give this one a new name.
Daddy: Haylee, do you remember where people and animals go when they die?
Haylee: Yes. They go to Kevin.
Daddy & Mommy: (laugh histerically)
Daddy: Do you mean heaven?
Haylee: yes, heaven
Then we proceeded to have the normal "burial at sea" via the toilet. Haylee even dumped him herself, waved at him, said, "Goodbye Pedro!" and flushed him.
This morning she woke up and told Tommy she was sad that Pedro was dead and wanted to know when she could see him again. She also wanted to know who was going to feed him in heaven.
This child is HILARIOUS!

Precious story; one that will be told for the rest of her life. LOL. "Kevin", that's too funny.
That is so sweet. She handled it with class I tell ya. You guys are such great parents and I think very highly of Kevin too :)
